Medjool dates demand a very specific set of growing conditions where the high heat, low humidity, and plentiful water meet. The perfect place in North America that delivers one of nature’s fruits is located within a 150-Square mile radius at the intersection of Arizona, California, and Mexico. Bated in sunshine and nourished by the Colorado River is the home of Bard Valley.
Chef Services Group had the pleasure of visiting their farms for harvest and was able to work with the harvest team to bring in fresh dates, learn the quality selection process, and understand sizing and manufacturing of the year’s harvest.
The Problem
Bard Valley Date Growers’ “Natural Delights” brand needed to increase awareness of their products in the food service market, including ongoing support to national food service operators and total culinary and R&D support for value-added date launches to retail customers. Additionally, they required support during national trade events, and advisory support services to formulate strategies for related promotions to the industry trade organizations and related national food service companies.
The Solution
Chef Services Group was retained by Bard Valley Date Growers in 2019 to provide ongoing support to national food service operators across the country, work with national trade show events, and support national harvest with sales and marketing teams. CSG also provides culinary workshops to national culinary organizations and culinary support during national trade events. We facilitated the formation of an advisory board with industry leaders to identify key priorities to promote the sales of dates in the US Food Service Market, and advised, supported and innovated date-centric sales and culinary applications.
The Results
As a result of the ongoing support from CSG, Bard Valley Date Growers’ “Natural Delights” are enjoying the start of an increase in brand awareness. CSG facilitated the formation of an advisory board with industry leaders, which helped identify key priorities to promote the sales of dates in the US Food Service Market. We were also able to generate interest for sales and marketing opportunities by promoting the use and application of dates on menus and for special events. The mission is ongoing, and Chef Services continues to work with Bard Valley Date Growers to innovate and support date-centric sales and culinary applications.
